Woodstock

Well, I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, "Tell me where are you going?" This he told me.
Said, "I'm going down to Yasgur's farm, gonna join in a rock and roll band
Got to get back to the land, set my soul free."

CHORUS: We are stardust
We are golden
We are billion-year-old carbon
And we've got to get ourselves back to the land

Well, then, can I walk beside you?
I have come here to lose my time
And I feel myself a cog in something turning
And maybe it's the time of year
And yes, maybe it's the time of man
And I don't know who I am
But life is for learning

CHORUS: We are stardust
We are golden
We are billion-year-old carbon
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden

CHORUS: We are stardust
We are golden
We are billion-year-old carbon
And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden
By the time we got to Woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere was a song and a celebration
And I dreamed I saw the bomber jet plane
Riding shotgun in the sky
Turning into butterflies above the nation

CHORUS: We are stardust
We are golden
We are caught in the devil's bargain
And we've got ourselves back to the garden

songwriter: Joni Mitchell

performed by: Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (Neil Young)

date released: 1970 by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

The Woodstock Music and Art Fair was held at Max Yasgur's 600-acre dairy farm near the town of Bethel, New York, from August 15-18th, 1969. Thirty-two musical acts performed for almost a half a million people in a festival regarded as one of greatest moments in music history.

Canada's Joni Mitchell wrote the song, "Woodstock" to commemorate the event and her friends, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young recorded the song and made it a smash hit.

Mitchell herself was unable to perform at Woodstock because of previous commitments. She wrote the song in a hotel room in New York watching the report of the Festival on tv. Her own rendition of the song came in 1970 for the album "Ladies of the Canyon."
