High Intermediate
Complicated

Opening: What's up boys? So what do you guys wanna do today? Gee, wanna crash the mall? Nice.

Uh-huh, life's like this
Uh-huh, uh-huh, that's the way it is

'Cause life's like this
Uh-huh, la-la-la-la, that's the way it is.

Chill out. What'cha yellin' for?
Lay back, it's all been done before
And if you could only let it be
You will see

I like you the way you are
When we're drivin' in your car
And you're talking to me one-on-one
But you've become...

Somebody else 'round everyone else
You're watchin' your back
Like you can't relax
You're tryin' to be cool
You look like a fool to me

CHORUS: Tell me, why'd you have to go and make things so complicated
I see the way
You're actin' like you're somebody else
Gets me frustrated
And life's like this, you
You fall and you crawl and you break and you take
What you get and you turn it into...
Honesty, and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No, no, no

You come over unannounced
Dressed up like you're something else
Where you are and where it's at
You see, you're makin' me
Laugh out when you strike your pose
Take off all your preppy clothes
You know you're not foolin' anyone
When you become...

Somebody else like everyone else
You're watchin' your back
Like you can't relax
You're trying to be cool
You look like a fool to me

CHORUS: Tell me, why'd you have to go
And make things so complicated?
I see the way you're
Acting like you're someone else
Gets me frustrated
Life's like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break and you take
What you get and you turn it into...
Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No, no, no

CHORUS: Chill out, wha'cha yellin' for?
Lay back it's all been done before
And if you could only let it be
You will see

Somebody else, like everyone else
You're watching your back
Like you can't relax
You try to be cool
You look like a fool to me

CHORUS: Tell me, why'd you have to go
And make things so complicated
I see the way you're
Actin' like your somebody else
Gets me frustrated

Life's like this you
Fall and you crawl and you break and you take
What you get and turn it into
Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No, no

CHORUS: Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated?
I see the way you're actin' like you're someone else
Gets me frustrated,
Life's like this
You fall and you crawl and you break and you take
What you get and you turn it into
Honesty and promise me I'm never gonna find you fake it
No, no, no

artist: Avril Lavigne
songwriters: Avril Lavigne and The Matrix (Scott Spock, Lauren Christy, and Graham Edwards)

date released: 2002 by Avril Lavigne

Born to Franco-Ontarian parents in Belleville, Ontario, in 1984, Avril Lavigne developed her musical talent and entered Canada's New Guard of singer-songwriters, fashion designers and actors. Lavigne's mother was the first to spot talent in her young daughter and arranged to have two-year-old Avril sing songs with her in the local Catholic church. The family moved to Napanee, Ontario, when Avril was five years old.

In 1998, Lavigne won a competition which enabled her to sing alongside country star, Shania Twain, in her first major concert in Ottawa. In a serendipitous moment, she was discovered by a professional agent while he was performing in a Chapters Bookstore. It was onwards and upwards for Avril.

Lavigne released her debut album, “Let’s Go” containing the sleeper track, Complicated. And she went, right up to Number Two position in U.S. music charts. Sk8terboy and I'm With You followed soon after to continue her early success.

Lavigne was named Best New Artist at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards. She won four Juno Awards in 2003 and was nominated eight times for Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Song of the Year for Complicated.

Several albums and many accolades later, Lavigne established her name in the music genres of pop, rock, and the sub-genre, punk-rock. Matching the style of her music, she opened up a clothing line called Abbey Dawn in 2008 featuring styles for modish teenagers. In the spirit of noblesse oblige, Lavigne has been involved in a number of philanthropic activities: Amnesty International, Make-A-Wish Foundation and several other charities.
