Unit 9 · Role Play 2 — Nothing Changed

Third shift running, nobody has repositioned Mrs. Okpara. Ask why before you escalate.

Phrases You Will Need

Step away firstHave you got a second, out here? Can we talk in the corridor?
Ask why — don’t assumeWhat’s making it hard to get to her?Is something getting in the way this week?Is it a two-person job?
Does not workYou said that last time. You’ve got time to stand here. Why can’t you just do it?
Escalate about the CLIENTMrs. Okpara has a stage 1 area on her coccyx and she’s been up over three hours for the third shift running. I think it’s a staffing problem — she’s a two-person hoist and one person is covering two halls.
“So you’re reporting me”I’m telling her about Mrs. Okpara’s skin, because it has to be recorded — and that you’ve been covering two halls on your own, because that’s the actual problem.

Your Role

You are a healthcare worker. For the third shift running, a colleague has left Mrs. Okpara sitting in her wheelchair for over three hours without repositioning. She has a stage 1 area on her coccyx. You have already mentioned it twice, politely. Nothing has changed. Mrs. Okpara is sitting right there and can hear you.
